Today's poem is about the Fall season -

"Now why do we call it Fall anyway? Is it all the falling leaves?"
"Not just the leaves. The season ITSELF falls faster than falling walnuts and apples!"
"Oooh! Don't forget pumpkins and corn! And Turkeys! And leftover Halloween Candy!"
"STOP, you're making me hungrier than a hibernating bear!"

Yes, yes, settle down now...
The fall season is rich in both flavors AND outdoor colors, making it arguably the most beautiful season of all. This inspires poets like R.S. Thomas to write poems about the fall season... Like this one.

A Day in Autumn - by R.S. Thomas
It will not always be like this,
The air windless, a few last
Leaves adding their decoration
To the trees’ shoulders, braiding the cuffs
Of the boughs with gold; a bird preening
In the lawn’s mirror. Having looked up
From the day’s chores, pause a minute,
Let the mind take its photograph
Of the bright scene, something to wear
Against the heart in the long cold.
-------------------------------------------------

"Huh. That's a good reminder to stop and smell the flowers."
"Flowers bloom in Springtime, not the Fall!"
"That's just an expression to live in the moment, silly! It reminds us to appreciate where we are no matter WHAT season it is."
"Oh!"

That's right! Which is why today's homework is to go outside and enjoy the autumn weather while you can! And bring back a stick or a leaf or something as proof that you didn't sit around inside all day. Class dismissed!
