National Trading Card Day!

Did you know that celebrity cards and baseball cards have been around since the middle of the 19th century?  These cards were slipped into cigar boxes and candy boxes as a clever way to advertise their stars.  Then, baseball cards were upgraded into bubblegum cards in the 1950’s; so that children could chew bubblegum and learn about their favorite athletes at the same time!

Trading card games, such as Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Magic: The Gathering, were invented much later in the 1990’s.   These were trading cards for newer generations, but like the old sports cards, they are beloved by more people than we can imagine, and people love to chase and trade these trading cards for more money than we can count!

…Kinda makes you wonder what would’ve happened if Poptropica’s Mighty Action Force card game ever got on the market… Which it didn’t…  But that didn’t stop me from building my OWN real-life Mighty Action Force Cards and game boards!  I even built a few Yu-Gi-Oh fan cards around Poptropica’s Tribes just for fun.

So, in honor of National Trading Card Day, I encourage you all to celebrate how far trading cards have come by finding some baseball cards at your local second-hand store!  -Or, you can check out my awesome Mighty Action Force posts and print some new cards for you and your friends to play with!  …Have fun!
